MULTI-award-winning gospel songstress Janet Manyowa is set to make her second appearance in the City of Kings and Queens where she will lead a star-studded line-up for the second edition of the Wanqoba concert.
An array of artistes are set to grace the occasion on June 8 at the Zimbabwe International Exhibition Centre Hall 3, including Everton Mlalazi, Snowy, Lebo Sekgobela, Khaya Mthethwa, Lorraine Maplanka and Joyful Praise.
The first edition of the Wanqoba concert was held in 2022 at the same venue, marking a significant milestone for Zimbabwean gospel concerts.
Manyowa said preparations are at an advanced stage for hosting the event, adding that she is excited to return to the country’s second-largest city.
“This is the second edition of Wanqoba. The first edition was in 2022 and it was combined with the live recording of the Father’s House album, which was our maiden appearance in Bulawayo. We’re excited about coming to Bulawayo once again.”
“Our theme continues to be that of Victory. As the name says —Wanqoba—it’s about joining forces, worshipping and praising God with the people of Matabeleland, in a victorious way. We are also appreciating Bulawayo, its culture and the people, celebrating Bulawayo for what it is while honouring God and lifting up His name,” said Manyowa.
She said attendees should brace themselves for some surprises on the night.
“Bulawayo is in for a couple of surprises. The City of Kings has a special place in my heart and so, the team is working hard and going all out to make this Wanqoba edition a special one.
“Also, Bulawayo has been blessed enough to be the first to hear some of our favourite jams. This time around, Bulawayo might be the first to hear a couple of songs recorded at the recently passed Worship Moments,” she said.
Manyowa said the line-up speaks to the talent endowed in the country’s gospel field.
“Wanqoba is a night of praise and worship, and I believe all the artistes on the line-up will create an atmosphere of praise that is befitting. We looked at local talent and loved names by Bulawayo people who are within our reach.
“These are all phenomenal artistes who have made their mark in kingdom music and together, I believe it will be a night to remember.”—@mthabisi_mthire
