Local RnB artiste JoyRukanza is set to captivate audiences with an extraordinary orchestral performance of her debut album, MatterMoreForSis.

The event titled “JoyRukanza and the MatterMoreForSis Orchestra”, is set to take place on September 7 at the Zimbabwe Academy of Music in Bulawayo.

JoyRukanza’s passion for classical music, choral arrangements and orchestras has been a lifelong dream. It began when she was the captain of the school choir at Sizane High School where she first envisioned performing alongside an orchestra. This dream was further solidified during her college years when she performed Mozart’s Requiem with an orchestra.

Since then, JoyRukanza aspired to perform solo with an orchestra. The release of her debut album, MatterMoreForSis provided the perfect opportunity to merge her love for classical music with her innovative RnB sound.

MatterMoreForSis is more than just an album; it’s a narrative of a woman’s journey of transformation and self-discovery. The title intentionally echoes the scientific metamorphosis process to symbolise the protagonist’s evolution through stages of heartbreak, acceptance and renewed love.

“This concept will be brought to life by an orchestra featuring musicians from across Zimbabwe and the all-female MatterMoreForSis choir,” she said.

“My album also serves as an ode to women who, due to societal expectations and inherent nurturing tendencies, often prioritise others over themselves,” added JoyRukanza.

“The message of the album is clear: “Matter More For Yourself, Sister.”

She said through this performance, she aims to inspire women to recognise and prioritise their happiness.

“The inclusion of an all-female choral ensemble further underscores this empowering message,” said JoyRukanza.—@mthabisi_mthire
