Kevin Hart to star in Monopoly movie Kevin Hart

Cape Town — Kevin Hart has signed off to be the lead actor for a movie based on the popular board game, Monopoly.

According to Deadline, Kevin has teamed up with Tim Story who directed the comedian in Ride Along and Night School.

Lionsgate and Hasbro will also be joining the production team of the live-action movie. The movie will be produced by Kevin’s production company, HartBeat

Productions in partnership with John Cheng and Carli Haney, with Sharla Sumpter Bridgett producing for Tim Story’s The Story Company.

Lionsgate and Hasbro have been attempting to produce a Monopoly movie since 2015 and had hired Andrew Niccol to write the screenplay about a boy from the game’s Baltic Avenue embarking on a quest to make a fortune, reports Variety.

Monopoly was released by Parker Brothers in 1935 and Hasbro obtained the popular game when it purchased Parker Brothers in 1991. According to Daily Mail, the game has been played by an estimated one billion people around the world.

The storyline of the movie has not been revealed yet and the project doesn’t have a writer or production date or what character Kevin will play.

The actor recently made headlines when he was announced as the host of the 91st Oscars but stepped down few days later when old old homophobic tweets resurfaced. There is still no host for the Oscars. — Drum
