KOMBI crews that operate from the City Hall in Bulawayo have opened a temporary loading bay along George Silundika and 9th Avenue to allow for the smooth running of the SADC Anti-Sanctions Day.
President Emmerson Mnangagwa, who is also the SADC chairman, is set to deliver a keynote address this morning at the City Hall and the taxi operators have decided to pave the way for the event to run smoothly.
As they go about their business, a Chronicle news crew caught up with a couple of rank marshals who said soon after the event at City Hall, they will return to their allocated place.
“We left our usual City Hall rank because there is the Anti-Sanctions Day commemorations there. We ended up resorting to load here so that there are no disturbances at City Hall. This is the second time now that we come here, but we will return to City Hall when the event concludes,” said Phumulani Maphosa.
Gerald Nyoni, a BUPTA rank marshall said their temporary base is close to the City Hall, therefore, their passengers will not struggle to locate them.
“The President is coming to City Hall so we decided that we relocate. It is easy for our passengers to locate us, there is an open space here but we will go back to our place when the event at City Hall is done.
“With kombis parked here, other drivers can try and use other streets to avoid congestion and those who usually park here, can approach us and we make a plan for them. We can shift our cars and open some space for them,” said Nyoni.
