SOUTH African-based kwaito musician Mr Makasana (born Ntokozo Ngwenya) has launched a fashion label named Kasi Combo in the neighbouring country.

Speaking from his base in Johannesburg, Mr Makasana said Kasi Combo as the name suggests is a largely ghetto affair inspired by his upbringing and the need to change the face of communities.

“From being raised in Entumbane to making it in the neighbouring country (where he has resided at places like Hillbrow and Soweto), the hood has been showing me much love. That’s why I thought of starting a brand called Kasi Combo as the President of all hoods.

“The plan is to uplift youths and build a legacy for them by taking them off the streets and empowering them so that they’re able to make a living,” said Mr Makasana.

The fashion label has a wide range of merchandise including sweaters, hoodies, T-shirts and bucket hats.

Mr Makasana said through popular musician Ex Mile, whom they have appointed as their brand ambassador, they are now in the process of establishing a musical studio.

“By fusing fashion with music, we want to be a gateway for the success of many up-and-coming artistes. This we’ll do through the establishment of a studio which will be launched in Bulawayo in December. The studio will be open to all up-and-coming talent as the intention is to nurture them so as to grow the industry,” he said.

Turning to his musical career, Mr Makasana said he started pursuing art in 2015.

“Since relocating to SA in 2019, I’ve managed to record six singles. Of note is a track with Nama winner Mzoe 7 titled Slay Queen. It’s currently being played on radio stations back home and here in South Africa.

“My mission is to penetrate Africa because right now, my market is only in SA and Zimbabwe. It’ll however be great to have an appeal across the continent and the rest of the world as time goes by. That comes with a lot of hard work and I’m ready,” said Mr Makasana. – @mthabisi_mthire
