Local film director and actor Daniel Lasker is geared up for adjudicating duties at the upcoming European Film Festival Zimbabwe (EuroFilmFestZW) Bioskop Short Film Contest 2022.

On the judging panel, Lasker will join award-winning Zimbabwean director and producer Kalai Barlow, French online director at Festival Scope Matthieu Eberhardt, Zimbabwean actress Sibongile Mlambo and Zimbabwean actor Tongayi Chirisa.

Lasker told Chronicle Showbiz that he is grateful to be part of the EuroFilmFestZW jurors.
“I’m thankful to be a part of this year’s European Film Festival Zimbabwe judging panel alongside some of Zimbabwe’s finest film industry professionals. It’s a pleasure to be able to review various films from different filmmakers across Zimbabwe, some who are first-time filmmakers and others more seasoned,” Lasker said.

He said there was a great selection of films this year with some really showing impressive and creative strides by local talent.
“Festivals and events like this are important for the growth of our industry as they give young filmmakers a platform and opportunity to showcase their work. They gain more experience by being a part of a healthy competition which aims to help us build one another and elevate our standards each year.”

The filmmaker urged fellows to continue producing films and grow their craft.
“To all the local filmmakers out there, keep creating and keep growing your craft! Don’t let anything stop you from telling your stories and sharing your talent,” said Lasker.

Festival coordinator, Gilmore Tee said the competition which is in its third year, was open to filmmakers from across Zimbabwe and the diaspora (Europe/Africa). He said the winners are expected to be announced very soon.
