POLICE in Madlambuzi, Bulilima district in Matabeleland South have teamed up with the community in a livestock busting operation that has led to the arrest of 10 stock thieves who had terrorised the area.

The arrest, last week, led to the recovery of 22 donkeys and one cow.

Police national spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said the joint operation between the police and the community in Madlambuzi, came at a time when there was an increase in reported cases of stock theft in Khandamhlophe, Mbimba, Jutshule, Nsubula, Mahole and Tjaboroma villages.

“Police in Madlambuzi launched an operation code named ‘No to Stock Theft’ in which they combined with the Madlambuzi community to fight against the scourge. The community seconded eight villagers who partnered with the police and assisted in the identification of the stolen livestock. The team searched neighbouring villages in Tsholotsho where they recovered the stolen stock which led to the arrest of the suspects,” said Asst Comm Nyathi.

Meanwhile, Asst Comm Nyathi said detectives in Mudzi arrested Lazarous Chinobhururuka (36), in connection with a spate of robberies around the country.

The arrest, he said, has so far cleared 10 cases, some committed in Harare, Bindura, Beatrice and Chinhoyi.-Follow on Twitter @bonganinkunzi
