LATEST: Police launch blitz against illegal mining, drug abuse Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has launched a blitz aimed at curbing illegal mining, drug abuse and fitting of dangerous bar headlights on vehicles among other operations as it seeks to restore normalcy ahead of the festive season.

National Police Spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi, via the official twitter handle said arrests have since been made under the operations.

“As at 21 November 2021, 57 280 people have been arrested on ‘operation Chikorokoza ngachipere/isitsheketsha kasiphele and no to machete gangs’ said Ass Comm Nyathi.

He said 45 people have been arrested under operation ‘no to crystal meth and 700mls of broncolear were recovered from 15 to 21 November this year.

A cumulative of 11 137 arrests were made on motorists who fit dangerous bar headlights.

Ass Comm Nyathi pleaded with members of the public to shun ill activities in their communities and report all criminal activities to police to help curb crime.
