Afro-pop musician Lemoniq (real name Gugulethu Monica Moyo) is preparing to release her latest single, titled “Sondela” on Saturday.

Lemoniq described the song as a soulful love ballad inspired by a long-distance relationship.
“’Sondela’ is an emotional song that expresses my longing for a loved one and urges patience until we can be together again. I hope it encourages everyone to be patient with their loved ones because time and love have the power to reunite us beautifully,” she explained.

The multi-talented artiste, who also excels as an actor and dancer, believes her diverse creative pursuits have helped her connect with people from all walks of life.
“Being a multi-faceted artiste has introduced me to a wide range of individuals. It’s taught me that there are no limits to what we can achieve,” Lemoniq noted.

Reflecting on her recent tour with the acclaimed Inkululeko Yabatsha School of Arts (Iyasa) dance troupe, she described it as “one of the most beautiful and memorable experiences” of her career.
“I learned how to blend my art with other performers and create something new together. That collaboration was incredibly important for my growth as an artist,” she said.

With the release of “Sondela” approaching, Lemoniq’s fans are eagerly anticipating the new single, which is expected to further establish her as one of the most exciting young voices in Afro-pop.

Lemoniq’s passion for music began at the age of 9 when she would mimic popular artistes at family gatherings. Her musical journey progressed through her teenage years, leading to a solo career where she penned and recorded her own songs.

At 18, she released her debut single “Ngowam’ lo” in collaboration with the dance and theatre company Umkhathi Theatre Works. The song, which blended Afro-pop and imbube influences, earned her significant attention and a spot on Skyz Metro FM’s top 20. In 2021, Lemoniq followed up with “Sofa Silahlane”, a celebratory love song that cemented her place in the local music scene and earned her festival performances and media coverage. Earlier this year, she released her debut EP “Ngowam’ lo”, featuring her previous singles along with two new tracks, “Skhathi” and “Nhliziyo Yami”.

Her versatility was further highlighted during her 2022 tour with Iyasa across Germany, performing in cities such as Hamburg, Norden, Cologne, Weimar, Leverkusen, and Rauxel.
