LETTERS TO THE EDITOR: Help police tame reckless drivers

Editor — The accident that happened in Kadoma is very sad. We know there is reckless driving on our roads and the main culprits are public transport operators. Whilst we mourn the departed let us introspect on how we should treat these passenger transport drivers and operators.

I have witnessed one bus driver overtaking in the full view of oncoming traffic. In the process the bus driver caused a Honda Fit and an Isuzu double cab to veer off the road and the truck he was overtaking overturned.

The bus driver, whose name I was later given, proceeded as though nothing had happened.

I overtook him and reported the matter to police who were attending another roadblock. This happened along the Masvingo-Harare road in the afternoon. Public transport drivers are simply reckless.

Road carnage has also been compounded by reckless haulage truck drivers and Toyota Wish or Honda Fit pirate taxis.

We have them doing all sorts of shenanigans on our urban roads in Harare, Gweru, Chinhoyi, Mutare and Bulawayo as well as other small towns like Karoi and yet we fall short on action. How many more must die before we act?

I am appealing to the President to attend to the issue of traffic policing in the urban areas and on our highways. This is a low hanging fruit and can be addressed if we commit ourselves to it.

May the souls of those innocent ones that departed in this tragic incident rest in peace.

The Government of Zimbabwe through its various institutions and agencies should help clear our roads of this man-made scourge.
Progressive Zimbabwean.

Zinwa thanks Hwange stakeholders
Editor – The Zimbabwe National Water Authority (Zinwa) has successfully repaired the pipe burst that occurred at its pumping mains resulting in water supply disruptions in Hwange Town.

The major pipe burst occurred on Wednesday, August 29, 2018 disrupting water supplies to areas serviced by Zinwa in Hwange Town.

These areas include Empumalanga, Baobab, DRC, industrial areas, Zimbabwe National Army and the Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services.

The burst also affected supplies for areas under the Hwange Rural District Council that are serviced by Zinwa, such as Lukosi.

Zinwa wishes to thank all stakeholders who rendered the necessary material and moral support during the period.

The Authority also wishes to thank the residents of Hwange Town and other areas it supplies water for their patience during the water supply disruptions.

Zinwa takes this opportunity to appeal to residents and other water users across the country to use water sparingly and efficiently especially as we go into the hot season when demand for water usually gets to its peak.
