A 22-YEAR-OLD man and a teenager from Makokoba suburb in Bulawayo have been arrested following a four-day robbing spree targeting pedestrians and cyclists along Luveve Road.

Lovemore Lubimbi and the teenager are suspected to have been with a third accomplice who is still at large.

They allegedly targeted pedestrians and cyclists along Luveve Road and robbed them at knife point. They also assaulted some of their victims who tried to resist.

The duo appeared before Western Commonage magistrate Mr Stephen Ndhlovu facing seven counts of robbery. They pleaded not guilty and the magistrate remanded them in custody to January 14 for trial.

Prosecuting, Brian Nkala said Lubimbi and his accomplices allegedly robbed their victims at knife point in Entumbane and Nguboyenja flyover of property worth $687 between December 19 and December 23. They assaulted some of their victims with stones and fists.

“On December 19 at around 8.30 PM, complainant Mr Hardlife Ndlovu was walking near Entumbane complex when he was approached by the two accused persons and another who is still at large. Lubimbi grabbed him by the neck from behind while the teenager produced a knife, before the third accused searched him,” he said.

Mr Nkala said they stole his wallet with $80 and fled from the scene. He said they robbed Mr Vusumuzi Sibindi and Mr Tapiwa Mavesera separately at the Nguboyenja flyover along Luveve Road. They allegedly took property worth $294.

The court heard that the accused persons robbed four other people in Entumbane opposite Rio turn off and near “Mapostorini” bus stop and stole property worth $468. Mr Nkala said the duo was arrested following a tip off from members of the public. He said none of the stolen property was recovered.—@NyarieBakie
