Innocent Ruwende Harare Bureau
Harare City Council town clerk Tendai Mahachi, has presented 22 demands as exit package to his employer and top among them are a mansion in Belvedere and two top of the range vehicles.

According to a letter written by his lawyers to Harare mayor Bernard Manyenyeni, Mahachi who earned more than $27,000 monthly, wants the city to pay him more than $100,000 for every year served.

He joined the city council in 2007.

Mahachi is on indefinite forced leave for reportedly stalling the city’s succession plan and rationalisation of executive salaries among other issues.

His lawyers Magwaliba and Kwirira, say the demands were based on comparative packages paid upon the termination of the contracts of employment of other persons in positions similar to that occupied by Mahachi.

“The current motor vehicle (Toyota Land Cruiser V8) used by our client shall be transferred to him at no cost.

“The City of Harare shall procure a new motor vehicle, namely a Jeep Cherokee Overland model and register it in our client’s name at no cost to him.

“Our client was entitled to occupy as part of his employment contract, the property known as No 9A Lanchaster Road, Belvedere. He, however, did not take up occupation of the property and has been occupying his private residence.

“That property will therefore be transferred to our client with the City of Harare paying capital gains tax for the transfer,” reads part of the letter.

Mahachi also wants to be allowed to buy a commercial stand measuring 6,400 square metres, which he is leasing at the price equivalent to 33 percent of its value.

He also wants the city to pay him three months’ salary as relocation allowance, six months newspaper subscription allowance, six months contribution to the funeral allowance benefit, six months salary as severance pay and, six months for fuel allocation.

Mahachi also wants his medical aid to be paid for six months from the effective date of termination of the contract as well as procure a new cellphone for him.

He also wants the city to pay school fees for three terms for his two children.

“With the foregoing, we state our client’s proposal in order for him to accede to the mutual termination of his contract of employment,” reads the letter.

Mahachi wants council to pay him the whole package over a period of two months.

Human Resources and General Purposes committee chairperson councillor Wellington Chikombo, confirmed that the city received a letter from Mahachi.

“I got sight of Mahachi’s letter, it sounds more utopian, fantasy and prefigure. However, the mayor is seized with the matter,” he said.
