A 55-YEAR-OLD man from Mutasa Village in Mutare was jailed 20 years for raping his step daughter (13).
The teenager and her siblings were left in their stepfather’s custody.
One evening while they were sleeping the unnamed man proceeded to the teenager and covered her mouth using his hand and took her outside.
The stepfather allegedly raped the complainant, then threatened to kill her and her mother. An anonymous Police report led to his arrest.
In a statement on X, the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) said. Sometime in April 2023 the complainant’s mother left the complainant and her sibling in the custody of the accused person. One evening as they were sleeping in the same room the accused person proceeded to the complainant, covered her mouth using his hand and took her outside.
“He removed her clothes before raping her. After committing the offence he threatened to kill her if she disclosed the matter to anyone. The complainant confided in her mother about the offence. When the accused person was confronted, he threatened to kill the complainant and her mother if they disclosed the matter to anyone. The matter came to light when an anonymous report was made to the Police, leading to the arrest of the accused person.”
“The accused person was convicted and sentenced to 20 years imprisonment of which 2 years were suspended. He will serve 18 years effectively,” said NPAZ
