A 26-YEAR-OLD man was sentenced to 15 years in prison for raping his 13-year-old neighbour, who he had tricked into helping him with household chores.
In April 2024, the accused called the complainant, to his house, requesting her assistance with house chores while his wife was away.
The complainant agreed, entered the room and began to sweep.
While she was working, the accused followed her, grabbed her hand, and despite her attempts to escape, he overpowered her.
He then pushed her onto the bed and raped her and threatened to kill her if she revealed the incident.
After returning home, the complainant confided in her uncle about what had happened, but he chose to remain silent.
The case came to light in July when an anonymous call was made to the police, which led to the accused’s arrest.
The National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) in a statement on X, said “A 26-year-old man from Meda village was arraigned before the Chinhoyi Magistrates’ Court facing charges of rape.
Sometime in the month of April 2024 the accused person called the complainant (13) who is a neighbour, to his house and asked her to help him with house chores since his wife was not at home for some days. The complainant complied and went into the room and started sweeping. The accused person followed the complainant and grabbed her hand. The complainant tried to free herself but she was overpowered.
“The accused person pushed the complainant onto the bed before raping her. He threatened to kill the complainant if she told anyone. The complainant went home and she told her uncle about the incident but he kept quiet. The matter came to light on the 25th of July through an anonymous call to the police leading to the accused person’s arrested.
“The accused person was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment.”
