A 33-YEAR-OLD gold panner, was charged with murder in Chinhoyi for allegedly raping and taking the life of a woman who declined his US$5 offer for sexual favours.
The National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe in a statement on X, said “Gold panner, Tafadzwa Nkonde (33) appeared before the Chinhoyi Magistrates’ Court facing murder charges as defined in Section 47 of the Criminal Law Codification And Reform Act Chapter 9:23.
“Allegations are that on the 30th of August 2024, the accused person, approached the now-deceased Nokuthula Mazivisa who was walking to her garden in Dandadale area of Chinhoyi and requested to have sexual intercourse with her offering to pay US$5 for the services. The now-deceased refused to entertain the accused person, which did not go down well with him. He grabbed the now-deceased’s neck from behind and dragged her into the bushes where he raped her once. After raping the now-deceased, he took a bottle of pesticide that was in the complainant’s handbag and shoved the contents down her throat. He disappeared into a nearby bush. Passer-by heard the now-deceased groaning and went to investigate. The accused person reappeared on the scene and was positively identified by the now-deceased who narrated her ordeal to the witnesses. The now deceased was rushed to hospital where she died upon admission.”

The court ordered the accused to remain behind bars until 18 September 2024.
