Masiyephambili Junior School is set to present a play titled “Journey of Faith”, today and tomorrow, starting at six in the evening.

The Christian play explores themes of heaven, hell and the human experience caught in between. It delves into spiritual issues and the impact of the spirit realm on people’s lives.

The school’s theatre and dance teacher, Nonkanyiso Mabaleka, shared insights about the play.

“This is a Christian play, which tackles spiritual issues. Other themes run in the play, such as the discussion about how young people are raised and how our lives are affected by the spirit realm.

“‘Journey of Faith’ is a light-hearted comedy that follows a group of diverse characters on their journey to heaven, highlighting the importance of faith in Jesus Christ and the transformative power of love.

“Bukhosi and his sister Maryanne are on a mission to save their friends’ lives. Directed by an angel from God, the two take their friends camping where they all discover the power of God. Their path is plagued with resistance from a tribe used by dark forces trying to stop them from going to heaven. God’s angels work very hard to protect the group. Through humorous and insightful challenges, the characters learn that it is not solely their good deeds but their relationship with Jesus that leads them to a holy life.”

Mabaleka emphasised the benefits of theatre for children, including building confidence, self-development and self-awareness.

“Engaging in theatre helps children to utilise and develop their creativity, imagination and collaboration with others. This is because, with drama, there’s no competition; they work together, creating a story and working together.

“It’s also a fun exercise where children dress up to be someone they are not and every time after a performance, they come out excited,” Mabaleka stated.

She also mentioned that they have invited musicians from the city, Vuyo Brown and Skhu.

“Bringing in artistes like Vuyo Brown and Skhu allows children to experience the creative industry first-hand and gain inspiration from established artistes.”
