MASVINGO Central constituency has recently made significant strides in its socioeconomic development, with the rehabilitation of over 60 boreholes and supply of electricity to schools and communities.

The progressive move is a testament to the constituency’s commitment to ensuring that all residents have access to necessities.

The rehabilitation of boreholes in wards 13, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 23, and 34 significantly contributes to clean water access for the communities, which is vital for health and agriculture projects.

Providing electricity to rural schools and community business centres has also been a game-changer, positively impacting education, businesses, and the economy in the constituency. With power, schools and businesses can now thrive, expanding opportunities for residents.

The government under the Second Republic is determined to leave no one and no place behind in the development process including rural settlements.

Masvingo Central communities exalted the constituency National Assembly representative, Cde Eddison Mudiwa Zvobgo, and the Second Republic leadership for their drive towards sustainable development.

Mrs Tambudzai Mutumhe, a Ward 18 resident said the Government’s initiatives are improving livelihoods in rural communities.

“Cde Zvobgo has helped improve the school’s water system, making it possible to easily access water from taps. The convenience of water access is beneficial for projects like poultry and horticulture, particularly in hot temperatures,” said Mrs Mutumhe.

She acknowledged Cde Zvobgo’s contribution to restoring electricity at the school.

Ward 18 Councillor Fanuel Chinyengetere said: “This initiative aims to provide reliable water sources for both domestic use and horticulture purposes in all villages. This effort particularly uplifts women, who are predominantly engaged in agriculture, and promotes a better quality of life.”

“The presence of safe and clean water sources plays a crucial role in preventing the spread of diseases like cholera, which has been a significant concern in the country lately.”

Ward 18A village head, Mr Munyaradzi Chinema expressed his appreciation saying, “The government’s initiative to rehabilitate boreholes in this community is a great achievement after nearly a decade with dormant boreholes.”

Mr Darlington Chimema, the Youth Chair of Ward 18A said, “The importance of having safe and clean water is for the community’s overall health and well-being.”

Masvingo Central constituency coordinator Mr Addmore Matindike said they will soon be through with the rehabilitation programme and begin other development projects.

“Our borehole restoration initiative should wind up by July, paving the way for new borehole drilling. Additionally, that month will see us pressing ahead with clinic developments and road rehabilitation in the constituency, given the expected cessation of rainfall,” said Mr Matindike.

“Across ward 34, we aim to provide electricity as part of our backing for the Rural Electrification initiative.”

He expressed gratitude for the commitment and support between the Government and communities in stimulating development projects.

“The President’s commitment to fostering development and communities’ collaboration has significantly contributed to the progress of the province,” he said.

“The local communities are actively endorsing and aiding in the successful execution of projects.”
