The Zanu-PF Masvingo provincial executive has recommended the withdrawal of Politburo member Cde Kudakwashe Bhasikiti from the Central Committee over his role in a plot to topple President Mugabe. Cde Bhasikiti was also implicated in the promotion of factionalism in Masvingo and protecting Western-linked companies suspected of being involved in attempts to effect regime change in Zimbabwe.

The Masvingo provincial affairs minister was narrowly elected into the Central Committee last week when he beat Cde Cuthbert Muzara by 73 votes to 69 in the fight for one of Mwenezi District’s three slots.

But the provincial executive has now recommended that Cde Muzara takes over Cde Bhasikiti’s place.

Cde Paradzai Chakona, who was the acting Masvingo provincial chairman when the decision was made, said they had forwarded the recommendation for Cde Bhasikiti’s withdrawal to the Politburo.

Cde Chakona has since been replaced by Cde Pupurai Togarepi as the substantive chair and he has since reverted to his position as deputy chair for the province.

War veterans and Zanu-PF supporters in Masvingo recently staged a demonstration against Cde Bhasikiti accusing him of fanning factionalism, among a litany of other charges.

Cde Chakona said the provincial council also passed a vote of no confidence against Gutu South Member of Parliament Dr Paul Chimedza and his Gutu West counterpart Cde Tongai Muzenda who were members of the provincial executive.

Dr Chimedza was secretary for health while Cde Muzenda was secretary for social welfare and the disabled.

The two were given the boot for promoting factionalism in the party and for being part of those plotting to effect regime change in Zimbabwe.

Also given the chop was Chiredzi West House of Assembly member Cde Darlington Chiwa and his Chiredzi East counterpart Cde Denford Masiya who were members of the provincial executive.

Cde Chiwa, who was secretary for business and liaison development and Cde Masiya, the secretary for security, were accused of being part of people who discussed plans to assassinate President Mugabe.

The two allegedly discussed the assassination plans with hospitalised Politburo member Cde Nicholas Goche who confided about the assassination plans in Zimbabwe Sugar Milling Industry Workers Union secretary general Cde Admore Hwarare.

War veterans and Zanu-PF supporters in Masvingo recently appealed to President Mugabe to withdraw Cde Bhasikiti from the Central Committee and also threatened to invade his Moria Farm in Mwenezi and parcel it out to land-hungry villagers.
