MASVINGO City Council has rescinded its earlier decision to turn down an offer by Masvingo Urban MP Dr Daniel Shumba to build state-of-the art sporting facilities.

A few weeks ago, council said Dr Shumba’s had applied for permission to work with the local authority in transforming existing sporting facilities that include football stadia, tennis and basketball courts into world class structures, but his offer was rejected as he had allegedly failed to honour an earlier pledge to build a clinic.

However, according to recent full council minutes the chief environmental health officer Mr Zvapano Munganasa clarified that Dr Shumba had not promised to construct a clinic but antiretroviral centres at council clinics.

“It was advised that the committee should consider his fresh application as a separate item for the benefit of the city since he could have failed to secure funding for the construction of ART centres. The application was granted and the applicant was required to produce the designs for the intended developments and submit to council for consideration,” reads the statement.
