THE Minister of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare Professor Paul Mavima has urged civil servants who are yet to be vaccinated against the Covid-19 pandemic to do so for their own protection and others as well.

In an interview following the 15 October deadline set by the Government for all civil servants to be  vaccinated, Prof Mavima said what the unvaccinated people should appreciate is that the risk of serious adverse reactions to vaccination is much lower than the risk of serious disease or even death as a result of Covid-19 infection.

“Inoculation for everyone is important as it mitigates against the spread of Covid-19. Jabs are a powerful tool in the fight against Covid-19. The Ministry of Health and Child Care and WHO strongly recommend vaccination against Covid-19,” he said.

Prof Mavima said civil servants should heed Government’s call for them to be vaccinated as they deal with members of the public adding that it will be for their own protection against the virus.

“For example, if our teachers are all vaccinated, we curb the spread of the virus among school children and the teachers themselves,” he said.

Civil servants have been given up to 15 October to be vaccinated or face disciplinary action.
