BULAWAYO Provincial Pool Association (BPPA) president Fortune Tawengwa said the association will tomorrow have a memorial tournament at Nokkies Club in honour of the late city pool icon Nhlanhla “Gure” Sesulelo who died last Saturday.

The late pool leading light who was a Zesa employee and was Zimbabwe Power Company (ZPC) pool club player and administrator, died at Mater Dei Hospital.

He was buried on Tuesday at Bulawayo’s Umvutsha Cemetery.

“As the Bulawayo pool family, we have suffered a great loss. The late Nhlanhla Sesulelo had been part of the pool family for so long, both as a player and administrator. He was a very loyal Bulawayo pool son. We are saddened by his death and as such I’m calling upon pool players to come in their numbers to be part of the memorial tournament. All the proceeds will be handed to the late Sesulelo’s family,” said Tawengwa.

Meanwhile, Tawengwa has implored affiliates to up their game and consider playing billiards matches.

“Clubs and their players should raise their game. We need a competitive league and they should avoid engaging in unnecessary noise. Games should flow smoothly and we all throng to different venues to enjoy the games,” he said.

Last week BPPA secretary-general general Nomore Muzvidziwa revealed that the last Premier League club slot which was up for grabs was taken by Golden Lions.

BPPA had earlier on called upon a club willing to participate in the association’s 2023 season Premier League to come forward and get the slot upon payment of US$100 franchise fee.

“The slot has been taken by the Golden Lions. The slot was as a result of Expandables who got promoted from our Central Business District League but failed to join our elite league,” said Muzvidziwa.

Golden Lions, a former BPPA Premier League side, join a family that has been dominated by last year’s champions Kings, Entumbane and Queens Academy among other well established city pool clubs.
