TWO men from Gweru and Kwekwe who were allegedly facing marital problems committed suicide by consuming poison.

One drank poison at his house while the other consumed poison at his sister in-law’s house after accusing his wife of infidelity.

Midlands provincial police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko said police are investigating the two cases.

“The cases occurred on January 9 at around 8PM in Mkoba, Gweru and January 13 at about 1045PM in Amaveni, Kwekwe respectively.

“On January 9, it is alleged that the now deceased Dereck Njanji (31) of Mkoba 5, Gweru called his former wife Rumbidzai Njanji (31) of Mkoba 14, Gweru to his place of residence.

“The latter responded by sending someone who upon arrival discovered Dereck lying outside the house complaining of stomach pains.

Dereck was rushed to Gweru Provincial Hospital where he died on admission after disclosing that he had taken poison,” said Insp Mahoko.

He said the matter was reported to the police who attended the scene and the body was taken for post-mortem.

In a separate incident, Insp Mahoko said Marcus Sanyangore (36) of Amaveni, Kwekwe went to his in-laws’ place of residence where he found his sister-in-law Olgar Sipinyu (36).

He said Sanyangore told her that he was having a misunderstanding with his wife Olivia Sipinyu over alleged infidelity.

“Sanyangore then drank a liquid substance he was holding, he fell down and died on the spot. The matter was reported to the police.

The scene was attended and the body was conveyed to Kwekwe Hospital awaiting post-mortem,” said Insp Mahoko.

“We appeal to members of the public to always solve disputes amicably by engaging third parties. Taking one’s life will never be a solution.”
