THE Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution for Midlands Province, Owen Ncube, presided over a high-level meeting to coordinate preparations for the forthcoming Heroes’ Day and Defence Forces Day commemorations.
Scheduled for August 12, the Heroes’ Day will be observed at the Midlands Provincial Heroes Acre, a revered venue dedicated to the memory of Zimbabwe’s national heroes who fought for independence and freedom.
Defence Forces Day will follow on August 13, at Mkoba Stadium, recognising the dedication and service of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces (ZDF) in protecting the nation’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
“I am very grateful to address you on our third State Occasions meeting to prepare for the Midlands Province Heroes and Defence Forces Day Commemorations to be held on 12 and 13 August here in Gweru. As you are already aware, the Heroes Day will be held at the Provincial Shrine, while the Defence Force Day celebrations will be held at Mkoba Stadium. It is now only 6 days left for the two auspicious events to be held, and I appreciate all the sterling preparatory work being undertaken by the State, Provincial, and Districts Occasions Committees. However, given the limited time left, I urge you all to intensify your efforts, focusing on what is available to make our two occasions successful. I wish to express my sincere gratitude to all donors who have extended their hand in support of the Commemorations,” he said.
Minister Ncube said the momentous occasions underscore the importance of patriotism, unity, and gratitude for the country’s liberation and peace.
He emphasised the need for collective efforts to ensure successful and dignified celebrations, befitting the sacrifices and achievements of Zimbabwe’s heroes and defence forces.
