DEPUTY Minister for Sports, Recreation, Arts, and Culture, Cde Emily Jesaya, urged the public to support local brands during her visit to Lumiere Fashion House in Bulawayo on Saturday.

Fashion designer Lillian Chasokela guided Cde Jesaya through the boutique, where she explored a range of innovative designs. Particularly impressed by outfits incorporating the national dress fabric, Cde Jesaya praised the creativity on display.

“These garments are more than just fashion statements; they embody the essence of Zimbabwe. Such creativity deserves recognition and support. Local creatives need to be elevated,” Cde Jesaya remarked.

Her appreciation of the local artistry was further celebrated when she received a complementary pair of tribal earrings from the fashion house symbolising the rich cultural heritage of Zimbabwe.

Said Chasokela: “We’ve just experienced an exciting time this weekend at Lumiere Fashion House. We had a surprise visit from The Deputy Minister of Sports, Recreation, Arts, and Culture, Honourable Emily Jesaya. We truly appreciate this unexpected gesture! This shows that as a fashion stable, our work is noticeable,” she said.

Lumiere Fashion House, a brainchild of Australian-based Zimbabwean fashion designer, Sikhanyisiwe Moyo dressed the newly-crowned Miss Teen of the Universe Africa and Miss Photogenic Queen, Victoria Ncube in India where she represented the country at the Miss Teen of the Universe contest.

Before she visited Lumiere Fashion House, Cde Jesaya served as the guest of honour at the prestigious annual flagship cricket festival, the “Old Mutual Colts Cricket Cup” and the “Cabs U13 Cricket Cup” finals.

During the event, she presented awards to promising young cricketers, underscoring her dedication not only to the arts but also to sports development in the country.

She also visited the late Retired Colonel Tshinga Dube’s widow Nomathemba to offer her condolences at the family home in Killarney.

Cde Jesaya’s influence in the arts community is notable; earlier this year, she was the guest of honour at the 2024 edition of the National Arts Merit Awards held at the Zimbabwe International Exhibition Centre (ZIEC).

As she continues to advocate for the support of local brands, Cde Jesaya’s efforts serve to inspire both budding artistes and established creators, fostering a vibrant cultural landscape in Zimbabwe. – Follow on X @MbuleloMpofu
