FASHIONISTA, Mbo Mahocs and former Zimbabwe Supermodel, television presenter Arthur Evans are set to host today’s Miss Earth Zimbabwe grand finale to be held at the Bulawayo Theatre.
A total of 14 beauties from the country’s 10 provinces will take to the ramp for a chance to represent Zimbabwe at the Miss Earth World competition in The Philippines next month.

Samantha Dika is the reigning Miss Earth Zimbabwe.  Local tribal house group Djembe Monks will provide entertainment on the night.

In an interview yesterday, the country’s  licence holder of Miss Earth, Thandekile Muringa, said Mbo Mahocs and Evans were chosen because they were good MCs and would add verve to the pageant.

“We have Arthur Evans and Mbo Mahocs as our MCs and we chose them because they are people who will bring the glamour to the pageant we want. The two are well known and have a good reputation in the country’s showbiz industry,” she said.

Muringa said there are three categories that the contestants would be battling it out in  – casual safari wear, swim suit and evening wear.
“Local designers are the ones who designed and made the evening wear dresses and the casual safari wear. We want to promote local fashion industry,” she said.

Muringa said the competition was won or lost not only on the ramp but also on the projects that models have been doing for the past three months.

“We do not want to produce models that are just pretty and do not have brains. We have given them tasks to do projects that are involved with environment advocacy and raising awareness in their community,” she said.

“The models will be judged on that (as well) and going on the ramp is not the whole purpose.”

Muringa said the models will be cut to seven then a queen and first and second princess will be crowned.

“The queen will walk away with an all expenses paid trip to The Philippines and cosmetics worth $1,000 from Langa Cosmetics. The first and second princesses will win a hamper of cosmetics from Langa also,” she said.

Muringa said on the night there would be a red carpet when people enter the venue with a private cocktail party with VIP guests, which entail organisers, sponsors and corporates.

She said the show would start at 7.30PM and people are encouraged to come early as they will not open for people to enter after the start of the show.
