MMCZ appoints new general manager

THE Minerals Marketing Corporation of Zimbabwe (MMCZ) has appointed Dr Nomusa Jane Moyo as the new general manager.
Dr Moyo has been serving as the acting general manager since July 2023.
In a statement, MMCZ Board Chairman Mr Jemister Chininga expressed that Dr Moyo’s cumulative experience in the acting role inspired the board’s confidence to appointment her.
“As the exclusive agent for marketing and selling all minerals produced in Zimbabwe (excluding gold and silver), MMCZ plays a crucial role in developing new markets for Zimbabwean minerals.
The MMCZ board believes Dr Moyo’s leadership will guide the corporation towards maximizing returns for all stakeholders through effective mineral resource accounting and marketing,” he said.
Dr Moyo brings 24 years of experience in public entities, having worked for the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (Zimra) for eight years, the Grain Marketing Board (GMB) for one year, has been with MMCZ since December 2009.
Mr Chininga noted her service as a board member in various private and public institutions highlighting Dr Moyo’s extensive corporate governance experience saying she is a respected writer, lecturer and presenter on corporate governance at local and international forums.
“Dr Moyo will lead the corporation’s strategic direction, drive growth and oversee day-to-day operations while fostering strong relationships with stakeholders and industry partners. We are confident that her leadership and expertise will guide the corporation towards continued success, creating value for all stakeholders,” he added.
Under Dr Moyo’s guidance in 2024, MMCZ achieved notable successes, including a 21% increase in mineral sales, recording a total of 3.9 million metric tonnes, up from 3.2 million metric tonnes in the same period in 2023.
In terms of export market development, MMCZ successfully created additional markets for its mineral products in countries such as Australia, China, Colombia, Burundi and India.
To curb mineral leakages, MMCZ invested in equipment for local government laboratories to enhance assay and characterization processes.
In the area of value addition and beneficiation, the corporation established a gemstone cutting and polishing training centre at the Zimbabwe School of Mines (ZSM) during the year under review.
Dr Moyo is a qualified lawyer, holding a Doctorate in Laws (specializing in corporate governance), a Master’s in Laws, a Bachelor of Laws, a Full CIS, and a BSc Honours in Economics. She is also a member of the Law Society of Zimbabwe and the Chartered Governance and Accountancy Institute of Zimbabwe.
