BULAWAYO businessman and Zanu-PF member Cde Benjamin Burman Muvuti who died last week, has been declared a liberation hero.

Cde Muvuti, 80, succumbed to renal failure at the United Bulawayo Hospitals (UBH) on Christmas Eve.

He will be buried today at Lady Stanley Cemetery in Bulawayo.

Zanu-PF Bulawayo provincial chairman Cde Dennis Ndlovu said the party honoured Cde Muvuti for his illustrious service to the people.

“He has been declared a liberation hero. It’s always good to appreciate the good works that people do. He worked hard and contributed immensely to the development of the city and country at large,” said Cde Ndlovu.

Cde Muvuti has been battling diabetes for years. His son Brian said the family was grateful for the recognition given to his father.

“We are humbled and honoured that he has been declared a liberation hero,” said Brian.

He said a service will be held at Seventh Day Adventist in Selborne Park at 9AM.

Cde Muvuti was one of the most successful salesmen in pre-independence Zimbabwe managing to break racial barriers.

He also managed to start a foam rubber company. Cde Muvuti is survived by wife and six children.

Mourners are gathered at Number 5 Russel Drive Kumalo suburb.
