INTERIM Dynamos coach Tonderai Ndiraya remains in charge of the Harare giants’ dressing room, but the delay in starting pre-season training has fuelled claims that the DeMbare executive is planning on bringing in a new coach.
DeMbare will start their preparations for the 2016 season at the end of this month, more than three weeks after most clubs that began this week.
Dynamos secretary-general Webster Chikengezha yesterday said they had not made any changes to their technical set up headed by Ndiraya, but confirmed that pre-season training will start “in the next three weeks or so”.
“We’re still planning for the team. Nothing has been decided as yet and therefore Ndiraya is still in charge,” said Chikengezha.
Ndiraya’s contractual relationship with Dynamos ended on December 31.
Sources told Chronicle Sport that the Glamour Boys have decided to turn to the southern region for a coach and had set their sights on someone from their bitter rivals’ camp.
“Remember we had some very influential Bosso players sometime back, who, against all odds, decided to don the blue and white jersey, but this time it could be a coach,” said the source.
Former Highlanders and Dynamos striker Makwinji Soma-Phiri still enjoys cordial relations with the DeMbare hierarchy.
His elder brother Amini had a successful 12-game run with the Bulawayo giants and lifted the Easycall Cup after beating city rivals Chicken Inn in the final.
On their way to the final, Bosso accounted for Dynamos, a feat that saw Amini becoming an overnight cult hero with the Highlanders’ faithful.
Amini said he felt ripe for a substantive head coach post anywhere, saying he could no longer be an assistant coach as there is nothing new to learn from whoever Highlanders bring on board.
