New beginnings: Baba Harare launches debut gospel album amid emotional reflections
Harare Bureau
Musician Braveman Chizvino, popularly known as “Baba Harare”, fought back tears on stage at the 7 Arts Theatre in Avondale, Harare, on Sunday as he recalled his past.
The 35-year-old successfully launched his gospel album titled “Repentance” before a highly appreciative crowd. South Africa-based gospel star Takesure Zamar Ncube, who is shaping Baba Harare’s new path, graced the event.
Top acts including Minister Michael Mahendere, Tatenda Mahachi, Batsirai Shasha, Sabastian Magacha, and Jonah Chivasa performed at the launch, adding to the night’s grandeur.
In an interview after his performance, Baba Harare said he does not regret quitting Jiti music.
“It was an emotional night for me to launch this gospel album before a big crowd on a Sunday,” he said.
“I was humbled by the support I got in my journey of winning souls back to Christ, the Saviour. I made the correct decision that I hope will inspire others to follow suit.”
Baba Harare noted that it took significant sacrifice for him to quit secular music.
“It took me years to build my career as a jiti musician, and I even toured the world while singing secular music,” he said.
“I know I will miss some of those trips, but God has changed my life. It is a journey that I will always cherish.”
The event, aside from being a night of praise and worship, was also graced by top celebrities and socialites, adding colour and excitement. Madam Boss, Faith Candy, and comedian Fretz Donzvo were among the notable guests in attendance.
