The Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA), organisers of the Harare International Carnival have set November 19 to 24 as the new dates for the fifth edition of the annual festival.

The event had been postponed several times because of the cholera outbreak which has killed 49 people according to a latest update by the Ministry of Health.

This saw Government banning all public gatherings and food vending in Harare as part of measures to contain the outbreak.

ZTA acting head of corporate affairs, Hazel Zisanhi said the street party – the main highlight of the carnival would now be held on November 24.

“The Zimbabwe Tourism Authority would like to advise all stakeholders that the 5th Edition of the Harare International Carnival has been rescheduled to 19-24 November, 2018. The main street procession is on the 24th of November,” Zisanhi said.

Featuring performances by South Africa’s Cassper Nyovest, Prince Kaybee and locals Jah Signal, ExQ, Freeman and Takura among many others, the event at the Glamis Stadium will now be held on November 10.

The Castle Lager Biggest Braai Day that had been scheduled for Old Hararians Sports Club next Saturday has had to be moved to a later date.

It is not clear if this postponement has been due to cholera or the shortage of most Delta beverages.

Organisers, Delta Beverages simply communicated that the postponement was due to circumstances beyond their control.

“Please note that the Castle Lager National Braai Day that had been scheduled for 27 October, 2018 has been postponed due to circumstances beyond our control. We’ll let you know once a new date has been set,” read a statement from the organisers.

The national braai day had become one of the biggest parties in the country where over 12 tonnes of meat are consumed on one day.

Last year over 16 000 people gathered for the event in Harare and they consumed over 15 000kgs of meat.
