NINE people have been killed while 11 were injured in crocodile attacks in the last two months, the Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority (ZimParks) has said.

At least 44 cattle and 60 goats were also killed during the same period in 49 human-crocodile conflict cases received.

19 cases were recorded in the Central region which covers Kwekwe River Sebakwe River and Munyati River areas.

In the Mid-Zambezi region that encompasses Lake Kariba, Angwa River and Hunyani River, 14 cases were recorded.

16 cases were recorded in the Matopo, Harare, North-West Matabeleland and South-East Low-veld regions collectively.

“We urge communities to remain cautious, especially around water bodies during this rain season.

“Communities must ensure that children and livestock are not left unattended near rivers or lakes to prevent them from becoming easy targets to the reptiles,” said ZimParks spokesperson Mr Tinashe Farawo.

“Additionally, when engaging in activities such as fishing, swimming and any other domestic chores in water bodies, it is essential to barricade around the places to ensure safety,”
