THE traditional sport and entertainment activities at the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF) will be set aside for this year’s trade expo as the organisers of the event are set to follow strict Covid-19 prevention protocols.

Running under the theme: “Showcasing the New Normal for Business and Industry: Realities and Opportunities”, the show seeks to bring normalcy and stability to business, industry and the national economy following the disruption by the Covid-19 pandemic.

It will run from September 21 to 24.

The ZITF Company has said as part of measures to curb the spread of the pandemic, children would not be allowed to attend this year’s show.

Some of the entertainment activities usually on offer at the expo have also been scratched as part of measures to curb the spread of the pandemic. In sport, events such as the Coca-Cola Four-Minute Mile, Ingwebu Tug of War competition and Mr ZITF are some of the sport codes that have kept crowds entertained on public days of the expo but will not be there this year.

“We are not going to have any sport or entertainment at the main arena. This is part of the safety measures being enforced this year. We sat and said we have to compromise on a few activities and one of those things was to say we will do away with main arena activities. Most of these activities are targeted for kids so without the kids it’s difficult to have an audience for some of these entertainment activities,” said ZITF deputy chief executive officer Stella Nkomo.— @innocentskizoe
