BEAUTY is set to meet art and culture when Oasis of Beauty College (OBC), a beacon of empowerment and creativity for young women in Bulawayo hosts its inaugural “Arts and Culture” event this Saturday at the Zimbabwe Music Academy in Bulawayo.
This ground-breaking initiative aims to celebrate the rich tapestry of arts and culture while challenging traditional stereotypes associated with femininity and domestic roles.
According to Mzimazisi Mabaso, media and marketing manager at OBC, the event seeks to debunk the long-held myth that young women are inherently confined to household chores and should be relegated to the background.
“We want to showcase the incredible talents of young women and highlight their contributions to the arts,” Mabaso explained.
“This event is not just a celebration; it’s a statement that women can excel in every sphere, including the arts.”
The “Arts and Culture” event promises a vibrant line-up featuring performances from well-known artistes such as StormZW, Bhekiwe, DJ Tino, Calvin Madula, Pretty Baby, and the No Name Dance Crew.
Attendees can expect an exhilarating showcase of drama, dance, poetry, and music, culminating in the crowning of the inaugural Miss Oasis, a title that symbolises not only beauty but also talent, creativity, and empowerment.
Chantelle Thando Nleya, who is the student chairperson said preparations for the event are well underway, with the team at OBC working tirelessly to ensure a memorable experience for all.
“We are excited about the response we’ve received so far,” Nleya noted.
“Our students have been actively involved in the planning and execution of the event, which has fostered a sense of community and ownership among them.”
OBC has a history of curating internal events that promote skill development and creativity among its students, but this marks a significant milestone as it expands its reach to the broader community.
“This is our first major event of this kind, and we hope to make it a regular occurrence. We held an Africa Day event internally but now, we want to broaden our scope,” Mabaso added.
“We believe that by creating a platform for young women to express themselves, we are nurturing their talents and encouraging them to break down barriers.”
The event is expected to draw a diverse audience of art lovers, families, and supporters of women’s empowerment.
OBC hopes that the “Arts and Culture” event will inspire young women to pursue their passions and challenge societal norms. – Follow on X @MbuleloMpofu
