PLUMTREE Town Council in Matabeleland South province will on Friday commission its fourth school in the border town, Mathendele Primary School.
The Minister of State for Matabeleland South Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Dr Evelyn Ndlovu is expected to commission Mathendele Primary School. Also expected to attend is the Provincial Education Director for Matabeleland South Province, Mrs Beatrice Manjere and the District Schools Inspector for Mangwe, Mr Danisa Nkomo.
The Plumtree Town Council has extended an invitation to residents to attend the launch of its latest development initiative, with details shared on its social media platforms.
“Residents and stakeholders are advised that Mathendele Primary School will be commissioned on Friday, 31 January 2025. Time: 14:00-16:00. Venue: Mathendele. An invitation is extended to grace the event with your presence, including the Council’s appreciation for your continued support in service provision,” read the statement.
Located in the Mathendele suburb on the eastern side of Plumtree town, the school boasts two finished classroom blocks and a third block that is 75 percent complete, with roofing installed. Initially, the school will cater to infant learners, offering classes from ECD A to Grade 2, with an anticipated enrolment of 160 learners.
However, the construction of teacher cottages is still pending.
“Mathendele Primary School will fall under Mangwe District and construction is still ongoing. Plumtree Town Council oversees several educational facilities, including three schools with a total of 3,509 learners.
“The schools are Dingumuzi Primary, Matiwaza Primary, and Phakamani High. Construction of Mathendele Primary School began in 2023 and was completed in December 2024 to alleviate overcrowding at Dingumuzi Primary School.
“The construction process was divided into four quarters, with significant milestones achieved in each quarter, including the completion of classroom blocks and an ablution facility,” said Mr Thembalami Nyoni, Plumtree Town Secretary.
The school is in its early stages, but plans are underway for it to reach full operational capacity around mid-2025. – @itsronaldrox on X
