POLICE in Bulawayo and local churches have joined forces in an elaborate bid to combat, as well as raise community awareness about crime.

The collaborative endeavour also aims to enhance community safety and security through a coordinated approach that leverages both law enforcement resources and the moral guidance provided by religious institutions.

Bulawayo province police spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube highlighted the importance of working with the community to create a safer environment for all residents.

“We are excited to join forces with the churches in our city to address the challenges of crime. By combining our resources and expertise, we can make a significant impact in reducing criminal activities and creating a sense of security in Bulawayo,” said Ins Ncube.

He said the joint operation involves a series of coordinated efforts, including community outreach programmes, awareness campaigns, and patrols in high-crime areas.

Ins Ncube said police and church leaders will be working closely to identify and address the root causes of crime, as well as provide support and guidance to individuals at risk of engaging in illegal activities.

The president of the Council of Churches in Africa (CCA), Bishop Dr Rocky Moyo, expressed his optimism about the collaboration.

“Our faith teaches us to be good stewards of our community, and this partnership with the police allows us to actively contribute to promoting peace and justice in Bulawayo. Together, we can make a real difference in the lives of our fellow citizens,” he said.

Dr Moyo said the joint operation reflects a shared commitment to fostering a culture of cooperation and mutual respect between law enforcement and the community.

He said by engaging in dialogue and working together towards a common goal, the police and churches hope to build trust and strengthen relationships within Bulawayo.

“The success of this partnership will not only depend on the efforts of the police and churches but also on the active participation and support of the residents of Bulawayo. By coming together as a united front against crime, the community can send a powerful message that criminal activities will not be tolerated,” said Dr Moyo.

He said as the collaboration between the police and churches continues to evolve, the hope is that it will serve as a model for future partnerships in other communities facing similar challenges.

“Together, they are paving the way for a safer and more secure Bulawayo for generations to come,” Dr Moyo said.
