THE Zimbabwe Building Contractors Association (ZBCA) has predicted a positive outlook for the future of the country’s construction industry, saying the sector is set to experience sustained growth and development.

This optimism is driven by several factors, including ongoing and upcoming infrastructure projects, increased investment in construction, and supportive Government policies.

As the construction industry expands, it is expected to have a positive impact on the country’s economy, creating new opportunities for businesses, workers, and communities.

With this positive outlook, the ZBCA is likely to play a key role in shaping the future of construction in Zimbabwe, working closely with stakeholders to promote sustainable development, skills development, and innovation in the industry.

As the sector continues to move upwards, it is expected to make significant contributions to the country’s economic transformation and development.

ZBCA, a non-profit national organisation that represents building contractors in various engineering fields, has said it believes that the Government’s role in construction projects has come in handy in revitalising the sector and reducing the outflow of foreign currency.

ZBCA’s newly appointed president Dr Tinashe Manzungu said the construction industry is expected to experience a surge in activity, with a range of exciting projects on the horizon, including the construction of additional malls, restaurants, and commercial industrial facilities.

The association has implemented various initiatives to boost housing construction, which is a key aspect of the industry’s growth.

“We are continuing to move upwards, driving progress and enhancing construction capabilities within the country. We have implemented housing construction and there are more enablers to construction,” said Dr Manzungu.

These enablers are expected to create a conducive environment for construction to thrive, leading to increased infrastructure development, job creation, and economic growth.

“The ZBCA’s efforts aim to promote sustainable development, skills development, and innovation in the industry, shaping the future of construction in Zimbabwe.

Dr Manzungu said the association will embark on constructing roads and other infrastructure development projects being implemented by the Government. The scope of the project includes the construction of a power plant, which involves the installation of two electricity-generating units, each with a net output of 300MW.

“Additionally, two new substations will be built — the 330kV Sherwood B and 400/330 kV Hwange B Substation — and a 400kV, 310km transmission line from Hwange to Insukamini in Bulawayo.

“This project will have a significant impact on the construction industry in Zimbabwe benefiting local contractors and contributing to the country’s economic growth,” he said.

Dr Manzungu noted that the construction industry has made significant strides in promoting gender equality, with a notable increase in women’s participation.

He highlighted that the industry now has more women in leadership positions, which is a shift towards gender parity in terms of leadership representation.

“The construction industry is building a brighter future, one where women and men work together in equal measure, breaking down barriers and building bridges to success.

“This harmonious collaboration is not only a testament to the power of gender equality, but also a key driver of innovation, creativity, and growth,” said Dr Manzungu.

“By leveraging the diverse perspectives and talents of both men and women, the industry is better equipped to tackle complex challenges, drive sustainable development, and create a built environment that is safe, accessible, and beneficial to all.

“As we continue to build a more inclusive and equitable industry, we are not only constructing buildings and infrastructure but also a more just and prosperous society for generations to come.” — @Lo7246Lovelyn
