Following the SADC Summit that was held last week in Harare, President Mnangagwa is today expected to leave for Tanzania, where he will join other Heads of State and Government for a crucial summit that is expected to end the conflict in the Eastern parts of DRC.
The mineral-rich Eastern DRC has been dogged by conflict for more than 30 years, with fighters from the M23 rebel group recently capturing almost all of Goma – a major city of more than a million people in the east of DR Congo.
The fighting has caused mass casualties and the displacement of hundreds of thousands of people in DRC.
For this reason, regional leaders from the Southern African Development Community (SADC) and the East African Community (EAC) will hold a historic joint Extraordinary Summit of the Heads of State and Government in Tanzania tomorrow to deal with the security situation in DRC.
Our Political Editor, Fungi Kwaramba, will give live updates of the event over the next two days. Stay informed on this important issue.
