President Mnangagwa declares Titan new energy plant ready to boost regional power supply

PRESIDENT Mnangagwa has declared the Titan New Energy 720MW thermal energy plant ready to start amid calls for energy efficiency and sufficiency in Zimbabwe and the SADC Region.
President Mnangagwa, who is also Sadc chairman, said the challenges faced by the region were immense and Investment into renewable energy is key, especially as access to power and its availability is a key economic enabler and catalyst for industrial development in the region.


Speaking in front of a huge crowd comprising developed partners, Government Ministers, officials and public sector workers, as well as hundreds of people from across Hwange and beyond, President Mnangagwa said there is a need for the region to increase not only generation capacity but also increase energy mix by investing in renewable energy to ensure SADC is able to prosper.
He said the Second Republic had created a conducive investment environment, urging investors to take advantage of the available endowments and contribute to the improvement of people’s livelihoods.
Titan New Energy has invested US$1 billion into the thermal power plant on Hwange and an additional 200MW solar plant in Gweru.
