TWO Khami Remand Prison inmates were allegedly caught red-handed sodomising each other in a cell. Christopher Jani, 36, allegedly had consensual anal intercourse with Mbonisi Ncube, 28, at around 3AM on March 3. The offence was discovered by their fellow inmate, Edgar Majasi, who allegedly removed the blanket which Jani and Ncube were covering themselves with and caught them in the act.
Majasi reported the matter to prison officials leading to the duo’s arrest.
Jani and Ncube appeared before magistrate Tancy Dube facing a charge of sodomy.
They were not asked to plead and remanded in custody to March 30.
When Magistrate Dube asked the two if they had understood the charge levelled against them, Jani said there was no evidence to prove that they committed the offence.
“Yes we also heard about the allegations. I’m saying they are allegations because there is no evidence to prove that we committed the offence,” said Jani.
Prosecuting Mufaro Mageza told the court that Jani and Ncube were doing time for rape at the prison.
“On March 3, this year, around 3AM, Jani went to where Ncube was sleeping. He said the two then covered themselves with a blanket and had anal intercourse,” said Mageza.
He said Majasi, who was suspicious of the two, went to where they were sleeping and removed the blanket which was covering them.
Majasi allegedly noticed that the two were having sexual intercourse and reported the matter.
In December last year, a rapist begged a Bulawayo magistrate to remove him from jail claiming that he was tired of being sodomised by other inmates.
Desire Dube, 18, who was serving a sentence for raping a six-year-old girl in Nkayi, was sent back to jail with authorities being directed to probe the sodomy allegations.
