The call for entries for the 11th edition of the Mining Media Awards (MMA) has attracted a remarkable response this year with a large number of journalists submitting their work hoping to get recognition for the role they play in shaping public perception within the sector.
In an interview Minex public relations and communications executive, Mr Moses Charedzera said the response to the call for entries for the MMA has vastly exceeded expectation this year.
“The response to the call for entries for the Mining Media Awards has been quite overwhelming this year. We have exceeded our target of 80 entries by 20 percent with a total of 98 entries compared to the 78 entries received the previous year.
“This is quite pleasing and we would like to thank all the journalists who submitted their work. The competition will be quite stiff this year as shown by the increase in numbers and we are confident that only the best will be rewarded and honoured,” he said.
Mr Charedzera said the main focus of most journalists was Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) which received the most entries at 26 followed by lithium, small-scale and artisanal miners, gold, diamond, platinum, coal and gas and lastly chrome.
Speaking in an interview, the president of the Association of Mining Journalists in Zimbabwe, Mr Tafadzwa Dube expressed delight with the overwhelming response to this year’s MMA entries.
He said that the jump in entries by 20 percent indicates increased commitment by journalists.
“l am truly delighted with the overwhelming response to this year’s Mining Media Awards entries. The increase in entries by 20 percent is a testament to the growing commitment and passion within our community of journalists,” said Mr Dube.
He said the remarkable progress reflects the dedication to covering important issues in the mining sector and highlights the relevance of our work in promoting transparency, responsible reporting and development in the industry.
“I commend all journalists for their outstanding efforts and look forward to celebrating their achievements at this year’s awards,” said Mr Dube
Meanwhile, the adjudication team is set to meet this week to determine the winners of the awards
The adjudication process will consider various factors such as accuracy, depth of reporting, investigative skills and the ability to shed light on critical issues within each sector of the mining industry.
The team will carefully review each submission, considering its impact, originality, and contribution to fostering transparency, sustainability, and responsible mining practices.
The MMA continue to set the standard for excellence in mining journalism, inspiring journalists to push boundaries, uncover stories, and make a lasting impact on the industry and society as a whole.
The winners in each category will be announced during a ceremony to be held on November 15 in Harare.
