SOUTH Africa-based Zimbabwean businessman with interests in construction, real estate and transport industry Fosta Maseko yesterday responded to former Highlanders striker Thabani Moyo’s appeal for sports equipment, donating a playing kit and match balls.

Maseko, who is in the country said he was touched by Moyo’s plight after the former striker took to social media platforms to seek assistance for football equipment for his Mzilikazi based team, FC Fusini.

The businessman hopes that his donation will inspire others to chip into Moyo’s project.

“T-Boy (Thabani Moyo) posted on Facebook and WhatsApp platforms that he has embarked on a football development programme targeting youngsters in shaping their skills and taking them off the streets in his fight against drugs and substance abuse. I saw it as a noble idea because as someone with football passion, T-Boy wants to contribute towards shaping future stars.

“As Maseko Investments, we felt that we also have a role to play in fighting drugs and substance abuse through this minor gesture. Grassroots development is key and who knows, maybe one day from T-Boy’s FC Fusini side we shall get a national star,” Maseko said.

The 37-year-old Moyo, who retired from professional football in 2018 and is brother to Dynamos’ defending twins Kevin and Elvis expressed his gratitude to Maseko.

“This gesture will go a long way in boosting players’ confidence when they step onto the field to play smartly dressed. I’m grateful to Maseko and his company,” said Moyo.

Besides playing for Bosso, Moyo turned out for now defunct former Zimbabwean champions AmaZulu, Njube Sundowns and Bantu Rovers.

He also had stints in Cyprus where he played for Division One sides Doxa Katokopia and Anagennisi Dherynia before joining Division Two side Chalkanoras Idaliou. — @ZililoR
