Seven month old infant burnt alive Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko

A seven month old infant was burnt alive after the hut she was sleeping in caught fire while her mother had gone to fetch water.

Midlands Provincial Police Spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the incident that happened in Mvuma.

“Police are investigating two separate fire incidents which resulted in the death of a seven months old baby and a 21 year old man in Mvuma and Mberengwa respectively,” he said.

Insp Mahoko said the first incident occurred on May 11 at around 5pm at Village 32, Chiwodza area in Mvuma.

“Deliwe Mapfumo (32) went to fetch water from a nearby well, leaving behind her two children Delight Chiunde (seven months) and Talent Fero (three) asleep in a hut. On her return she found Erica Machisa (53) her neighbour and her son trying to put out fire which had engulfed her hut,” he said.

Insp Mahoko said the fire was so extensive that they only managed to rescue Fero who had sustained severe burns.

The infant died in the inferno.
