THE Zimbabwe Academy of Music in Bulawayo was buzzing with excitement on Saturday as the Oasis of Beauty College (OBC) launched its inaugural “Arts and Culture” event.

This vibrant celebration of creativity and talent showcased a diverse line-up of performances and culminated in the crowning of the first-ever Miss Oasis, a title that embodies not just beauty, but talent, creativity and empowerment.

The evening was electrified by the sounds of Larynx on the decks, setting a lively tone as attendees filled the venue. Calvin Madula, the evening’s MC, welcomed guests with charisma and charm, seamlessly guiding them through a programme that featured an impressive array of local artistes, including StormZW, Bhekiwe, DJ Tino, Pretty Baby and the No Name Dance Crew.

The event was a multifaceted affair, offering an array of performances that included drama, dance, poetry and music. Notably, the OBC Drama Club delivered a compelling theatrical piece that tackled pressing social issues such as forced marriages and the implications of narcotics abuse. This powerful performance shone a light on the darker sides of society, addressing how these issues often lead to domestic violence and other serious consequences.

As the night progressed, the spotlight turned to the fashion competition, where models showcased their creativity in three categories: recycled wear, cultural wear and evening wear. The audience was treated to stunning outfits made from plastic and recycled materials, highlighting the ingenuity and resourcefulness of the designers.

Their diverse backgrounds allowed for a well-rounded evaluation of the contestants’ performances.

The crowning of Miss Oasis marked the pinnacle of the evening’s festivities. Shania Sibanda emerged victorious, receiving a Kings Kraal meal voucher worth US$50, the prestigious title of Face of SaDee Lenswork for the entirety of 2025 and a full scholarship sponsored by OBC and Team ACE, alongside a cash prize of US$200.
