COMEDIAN Learnmore Jonasi, affectionately is defying gravity and reaching new heights.  The talented performer has skyrocketed to the finals of America’s Got Talent (AGT) Season 19, making him the first Zimbabwean to achieve such a feat.

Jonasi’s journey to the finals has been nothing short of remarkable. As he represents Zimbabwe on the world stage, he has the opportunity to make history. While no comedian has ever won AGT in its 18 seasons, Jonas’ unique blend of humour and charisma could be the game-changer.

The Season 19 finale will see the winner walking away with a US$1 million grand prize and the chance at fame and fortune in Las Vegas. The finals are scheduled for September 17, with the results announced on the same day.

The top 10 finalists are Sebastian and Sonia, AIRFOOTWORKS, Hakuna Matata Acrobats, DeeDee Simon, Brent Street, Learnmore Jonasi, Richard Goodall, Roni Sagi & Rhythm, Sky Elements and Solange Kardinaly.

His journey began on May 28 when he showcased his talent during the premiere of the show, earning a golden buzzer from his childhood idol, American actor and AGT host Terry Crews. At that moment, Jonasi was overwhelmed and even jokingly requested Crews to “punch” him as he could not believe it was real.

Before the golden confetti showered him, sending Jonasi straight to the live rounds, he shared his admiration for Crews, which began during his childhood in Chimanimani. Jonasi affectionately recalled watching Crews in the movie “White Chicks” with his grandparents and often mimicking Crews’ character signature moves.

“I used to mimic that all the time when I was a kid,” Jonasi said, adding that he aspired “to be like him when I grow up”.

The post was followed by more than 11 000 congratulatory messages in the space of four hours. Some even went further to declare him the winner of AGT Season 19.
One social media user, Joseph Takudzwa Maramba, said Jonasi will be the first comedian to win it.

“Dude, you will be the first comedian to win this after 18 seasons. It is written, go get it bro,” he said. Jonasi’s achievements on AGT are an example of how Zimbabweans are making significant impressions in the global creative space.
