JOHANNESBURG, 7 December 2024 — South African Airways (SAA) has confirmed the end of the pilots’ strike that began on 5 December 2024. The breakthrough came early this morning, following successful negotiations between SAA’s Executive Management and the South African Airways Pilots Association (SAAPA).

The agreement includes an additional 1 percent salary increase, bringing the total salary adjustment to 9.47 percent for pilots. Professor John Lamola, a key figure in the negotiations, emphasised the ongoing commitment to workforce productivity and pilot well-being.
“As part of the agreement that broke the deadlock in wage negotiations, engagements on a continuous enterprise improvement programme will continue over the next eight weeks,” he said.

SAA has announced plans to restore its full flight schedule by Sunday, 8 December 2024, with over 100 pilots returning to work by midday today.

The airline expressed gratitude to its customers for their patience during the strike and advised them to check its website and social media platforms for updated flight schedules.
