VACCINATED football fans can now return to the stadia after Zifa announced on Thursday morning that the Sports and recreation Commission had approved a maximum of 2 000 fans per game.

“The SRC has approved Zifa to allow 2 000 vaccinated fans for Chibuku Super Cup matches,” Zifa tweeted.

This means fans will be able to watch the final Group 1 Chibuku Super Cup match between Yadah and Herentals at the National Sports Stadium in Harare on Saturday morning.

The news comes as a welcome relief for football enthusiasts, who last watched football from the stands in the Castle Challenge Cup between Highlanders and FC Platinum at Barbourfields Stadium on March 14, 2020.

FC Platinum won 2-0 in a match characterised by crowd trouble when Bosso fans invaded the pitch just before the end.

Football has been played in empty stadia since sport was allowed to resume following more than a year of strict Covid-19 lockdowns.
