SPORTS and Recreation Commission (SRC) Bulawayo Metropolitan provincial board member Chrispen Manyuke died at United Bulawayo Hospital on Sunday night, six days shy of his 64th birthday.

Manyuke was Zimbabwe Paralympics Committee president from 2005 to 2008.

He had been active in the promotion of sport in the country from his early 20s.

SRC Bulawayo coordinator Sam Dzvimbu described the passing away of Manyuke as shocking and devastating.

“It is an untimely death and his passing has left a void, especially in Paralympics. Last week we attended a meeting together and here we are now receiving the sad news,” said Dzvimbu.

“This is not just a loss to his family or Bulawayo, but to the country and the sporting fraternity. As SRC Bulawayo, we are deeply saddened by his sudden death. He was a great sports leader who was in the process of organising a huge event for Paralympics players.”

Manyuke previously chaired the Zimbabwe Sports Association for the Disabled (ZSAD) from 1981-86 and was in the SRC board representing disabled sportspersons from 1998-2004.
