THE Sports Commission, together with the Ministry of Youth, Sport, Arts and Recreation, will convene a National Games Assembly to map the way forward after the postponement of this year’s Zimbabwe National Youth and Paralympic games.

The Games were supposed to be held in August from 15-27.

However, the showcase was deferred owing to the outbreak of typhoid in Gweru.

In a statement yesterday, Sports Commission corporate communications manager, Tirivashe Nheweyembwa, said they would bring all the stakeholders to the table.

“Following the postponement of the Zimbabwe National Youth and Paralympic from August to December, as a result of typhoid cases which were reported in Gweru, the Sports Commission will host a seminar to be attended by Provincial General Managers, Sport Competitions Directors, the Local Organising Committee for the Games and other key Government Arms.

“The purpose of the Assembly will be to deliberate on the following issues to determine the exact timing of the Games in December, discuss and agree on the Games competition format, receive and consider a progress update report from the Local Organising Committee, conduct an inspection tour of the Games Competition venues and discuss any matters incidental to the success of the Games.

“It is in this regard that all the 10 geographic provinces and the 12 virtual provinces, as well as the Sport Competition directors, are requested to attend this important meeting so that together we can make the critical decisions relating to the hosting of the Games in December.

“We are aware that in December the timing is not too flexible because of the festive season hence the importance of the meeting in Gweru next week cannot be overemphasised.’’ said Nheweyembwa.
