To ensure that men do not feel left out, the Zimbabwe Progressive Youth Foundation, organisers of the Doek & Jean event for women are organising a men’s outing.

The outing will take place at the Hillside Dams Conservancy in Bulawayo next week Saturday.

Organisers said the event dubbed “Bulawayo Men’s Outing: Indoda/Murume must have straw-hat and a cooler box” aims to provide a platform for men to relax, unwind, and network for a better 2024.

Various activities including fishing competitions, braai, and tag of war have been arranged with traditional meals that many men enjoy set to be served.

“There will be a lot of social and business networking opportunities. We’ve also arranged for pigs to be roasted on a spit for the participants to enjoy,” Thabani Madhlayo, the Zimbabwe Progressive Youth Foundation founder said.

“This event is set to give birth to men who stand up for each other and support each other. Most men commit suicide and make wrong decisions due to the pressures of life, business and other elements that influence mental health strength. Hence men must come together, share and talk on real life matters and possible solutions.

“Surely, one can tell that fathers are heads of homes and when the head is affected, the body is affected too. Laughing is a key important tool that all men need to distress,” Madhlayo added.

The event organisers said is not only a social gathering, but also a business networking opportunity.

“The event is set to have notable business names from Bulawayo, inclusive of business leaders, entrepreneurs and men from various communities and sectors.”

Men are expected to attend the gathering wearing straw hats to make them feel more connected to their roots and culture.

“The ‘Bulawayo must have a straw hat’ theme is meant to symbolise the strength and pride of men in our city. The song, The Reason Why (Dzemurara) by Baba Harare which has lyrics, ‘. . . Ana baba simudzai hat dzemurara’ meaning men lift up your straw-hats, supports that,” Madhlayo said.— TashaMutsiba
