TELONE coach Herbert Maruwa says they are targeting a top-eight finish in this upcoming season and is happy with the transfer business the club has done.

The Wifi boys have snapped up former Dynamos captain Frank Makarati and Ngezi Platinum Stars’ midfielder Bruno Mtigo.

Also on board is Gerald Bero and striker Tawanda Macheke from Manica Diamonds as they look to improve on their performance last season.
Maruwa is optimistic about the team’s prospects and says a top-eight finish is firmly on their sights.

“We are now in our fourth week of training and I am happy with how the team is shaping up. The goal for us this season is simple, we just have to improve our position on the log table. We are targeting a top-eight finish, and with the new signings, I believe we have a solid foundation to build on,” said Maruwa.

The Wifi boys, who finished 10th in the PSL last season after a dramatic comeback, are hoping to maintain their fine form in the 2025 season. Maruwa has been instrumental in the team’s turnaround after stepping in as coach when the team was facing relegation.

“We made a remarkable comeback last season, and I believe the same determination will carry us through this season. We have strengthened the squad, and with the addition of experienced players like Makarati and Mtigo, we are ready to compete,” said Maruwa.

TelOne FC, who were facing relegation mid-season, secured the services of Maruwa after the sacking of Tendai Chikuni.

His arrival marked a turning point, as he managed to steer the team away from the drop zone and guide them to safety.

They were 10th on the log at the end of the season.
“I came in at a time when the team was in a difficult position and Iam happy we managed to turn things around. Our challenge now is to take the team to the next level. A top-eight finish is within reach and we are working hard every day to achieve that,” said Maruwa.

The 2025 season is set to kick off with the Castle Challenge Cup, featuring Dynamos, the Chibuku Super Cup winners and Simba Bhora, the league champions, on February 22, followed by the start of league games tentatively on March 1. — @innocentskizoe.
